The 7th Armoured Division of the NVA was one of two armoured divisions in the GDR. Its troops and units were deployed in the south-east of the republic. The division headquarters were located in Dresden. In this book, former members of the large unit - both senior cadres and basic military service members - recall personal experiences and events during the years of the 7th Armoured Division's existence - from its commissioning with the swearing-in ceremony and the presentation of the troop banner on 20 August 1956 to the last roll call for the handover to the Bundeswehr on 2 October 1990. The political events, such as the "Prague Spring" in 1968 and the turbulent period of change in autumn 1989, also play a major role. In addition, this chronicle documents the personnel, technology, armaments and ammunition structures of the 7th Armoured Division's formations and units.
