Description
The phenomenon of war has much more than a military dimension. Especially since the 20th century, war with its terrible effects no longer affected only the soldiers, but increasingly also the civilian population, whether in the immediate war zone or on the "home front". Nutrition and thus "cooking in war" played a decisive role in this.
This work deals with the problems of supply in the hinterland and attempts to cope with them during the First World War, among other things through reduced food, the use of substitutes or the use of food sources in nature that were mostly ignored outside times of need. Contemporary cooking recipes show astonishing ingenuity.
