Description
In this book, French historian Dominique Venner tells the story of the Freikorps, which emerged from the Imperial Army in the chaotic Germany of November 1918. These volunteers, who were prepared to do anything to maintain the weakening empire and its threatened borders in the east and west, bloodily crushed the uprisings of the Spartacists and anarchists in Berlin and Hamburg, overthrew the "soviet republics" in Munich and the Ruhr region and then fought fierce battles against the advancing Red Army in the Baltic states. They took part in attempted coups, the assassination of Foreign Minister Walther Rathenau and were instrumental in the emergence of National Socialism.
