Description
Since the beginning of the standing army in the Imperial-Royal Army, there have been seven basic types of infantry rifles. Starting with the infantry rifle M. 1700 to 1798, through the Augustin M. system 1798/40 and 1842, the Lorenz infantry rifle M. 1854 and the Werndl breech-loading system to finally the Mannlicher infantry rifle system. From these seven basic types, an almost unmanageable series of infantry rifle models developed in the course of the muzzle-loading era and immediately thereafter, which were repeatedly modified by the latest improvements to the lock, barrel and stock. Beginning with the first industrialisation, it was finally possible to ensure a largely uniform production of small arms. This book provides an almost complete overview of the development of Austrian infantry rifles from 1650 to 1938, in which all standardised infantry rifles and the corresponding experimental rifles are presented. The holdings of the K. u. k. Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung Braunau contain 150 examples of those infantry rifles which are presented in this book and can therefore make a significant contribution to identification for every collector.
