Description
Oswald Egerer applied for the Waffen-SS vocational high school in 1943, specialising in agriculture, and began his basic training in April 1944 in the 9th SS Panzer Division "Hohenstaufen". Attendance at the Berufsoberschule followed, but ended without graduation in October 1944 because Egerer was ordered back to the SS division "Hohenstaufen".
Finally he took part in the Battle of the Bulge as a grenadier, during which his toes froze to death. In a military hospital he was captured by US troops in April 1945. His discharge followed in June 1946. Friedrich Braun joined the 2nd SS Panzer Grenadier Division "Das Reich" in October 1942 and, among other things, took part in the 1943 operations in the Kharkov area. Wounded, he was deployed to Slovakia in the autumn of 1944, and after being wounded again - used as an armourer - he was deployed to Austria for the last time in 1945. Taken prisoner of war on 9 May 1945, he was released in May 1946.
