Description
This book presents the recollections of three members of the 11th SS Volunteer Panzer Grenadier Division "Nordland". Heinrich Heinemann joined the Waffen-SS as a 17-year-old in 1943 and eventually served in the SS Panzer Reconnaissance Division 11. Sickened in April 1944, his last deployment did not follow until a year later in the SS Brigade "Westphalia".
Anton Koller was drafted into the SS Flak Training and Replacement Regiment in Munich-Freimann as an 18-year-old in 1944 and eventually served - trained as a radio operator - in the SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 23 "Norge". He took part in all the battles on the Narwa, in Kurland and finally in Berlin and actually managed to make his way home from Berlin on foot without becoming a prisoner of war. Heinz Genzow was also drafted to Munich-Freimann at the age of 17 and was one of the approximately 1,000 recruits who marched off to Estonia in the spring of 1944 as a replacement for the 11th SS-
Volunteer Panzer Grenadier Division "Nordland". He became a divisional commander in SS Panzer Reconnaissance Division 11 and took part in
the battles in Estonia and Latvia (Courland) as well as the final battles in Pomerania and Berlin.
