Description
This volume presents the memoirs of two members of the German Army during the Second World War. Valentin Mayer was born in 1920 and joined the Infantry Replacement Battalion 468 at the age of 20. Wounded and decorated several times - finally as a sergeant - he took part in heavy fighting with heavy losses. Wounded in Denmark, he became a Western Allied prisoner of war.
Wingolf Scherer was born in 1924 and joined the Infantry Replacement Battalion 301 at the age of 18. Initially an occupation soldier in France, he followed officer training and finally served as a lieutenant in the 277th People's Grenadier Division, in which he took part in the Battle of the Bulge, among other things. He was a prisoner of war for only half a year.
