With this book, the well-known naval historian Zvonimir Freivogel takes up a land warfare topic and deals here with the Austro-Hungarian artillery in the First World War. The subject of Austro-Hungarian artillery is rarely covered in Croatian-language literature, and apart from a few articles in specialist and popular journals or encyclopaedias, there are no works that deal extensively with this area.
The author therefore decided to fill this gap with a kind of encyclopaedia of Austro-Hungarian cannons, howitzers, mortars and machine guns, in which one can find an overview of all types of cannon used by the Austro-Hungarian land forces in the First World War. The introductory text is followed by chapters on individual types of artillery, from field and mountain artillery to fortress, siege and coastal artillery, anti-aircraft weapons and weapons used in trench warfare such as mortars and machine guns. The book is profusely illustrated and supported by tables with tactical and technical data on the guns themselves as well as data on the organisation of the Austro-Hungarian field, mountain and heavy artillery before and during World War 1.
