Something was rescued from bomb debris and rubble, slumbered for 60 years - well kept and half forgotten - in the trove of the Hanover Historical Museum: slate moulds of the du Bois and Harnisch pewter figure offices from the mid-19th century. A few years ago, these moulds were tracked down again by collectors and restored. From the old slate emerged magnificent, rarely seen figures in all sizes: parading hussars, promenading burghers, proud princes, daredevil circus acrobats, exotic animals and many more. The result is a book that lets the beauty of the figures, depicted here for the first time, do the talking. In the text, much new is told about old Hanoverian offices, figures of the court and military appear in their historical setting, some prove to be representations of long-forgotten greats of their time. In addition, however, the people who played with these figures or put them in the display case at that time also come to life.
