100% New Moulds - 100th Anniversary of the Aeronautica Militare PE Parts - Cockpit 3D Decal - 2 Super Decal Sheets
The Macchi MC.202 Folgore represented a crucial innovation for the fighter squadrons of the "Regia Aeronautica" (Royal Italian Air Force). Exceptionally beautiful aerodynamically, it was equipped with the powerful German DB 601 in-line engines produced under licence by the Italian Air Force. The new engines and the strength of the aviation project gave the "Regia Aeronautica" a fighter capable of fighting "on the same level" as the Allied fighters. The flight performance was even significantly better compared to the previous generation fighters equipped with radial engines, such as the Fiat G-50 and the Macchi Mc-200. Agile and fast (it could reach 600 km/h), it was armed in the first versions with two Breda SAFAT machine guns of 12.7 mm calibre mounted on the front section. Only in later versions was the armament upgraded to make it more suitable for air combat against American and British fighter aircraft.
