The first volume in the series "German-German Military History" brings together numerous previously unpublished documents on the military history of the FRG and the GDR. They come from the ministries of defence, the armed forces, protest movements or private sources. With this broad basis, the history of the German military during the East-West conflict is presented comprehensively in sources for the first time in its political, social, cultural and economic dimensions.
The total of 217 documents illuminate both the domestic perspective of the military and the international involvement of both German states. In this way, the volume makes the significance of the military in German-German history from the end of World War II to German unification accessible.
