In the short transitional phase at the end of 1989/beginning of 1990, when the Wall was already open at the top but border guards were still on duty at the closed stations of the West lines under East Berlin, historically unique photographs were taken by Michael Richter, accompanied by memorable texts by the legendary Berlin flâneur Heinz Knobloch. These are supplemented by revealing interviews with contemporary witnesses. Michael Richter returned to the historical sites in 2008 and captured the present situation again from the same perspective. In this way, surprising comparisons between then and now are possible, and the whole absurdity of the city, divided for 28 years, becomes apparent. After the first edition in 1992, this picture-text volume has become an "underground" classic of divided Berlin.
