This second part is now the follow-up volume to the comprehensive complete work on the subject of imperial Austrian decorations. While the first part dealt exclusively with the imperial orders, this part is dedicated to the other wearable state decorations, their history, significance and appearance. More than 60 different awards were created from the end of the 18th century until the end of the First World War in 1918. Decorations for military and civilian service, for long years of service, commemorative insignia for personalities or participation in campaigns and wars as well as jubilee insignia can be assigned to this segment. The presentation of the history, significance and decorations themselves differs from the imperial-royal orders, which usually have a comparable orientation and degree or class classification in their structure and division. In contrast, the state decorations do not follow any superordinate norms in their statutes, but are structured accordingly according to the characteristics of the purpose of the award. At the same time, some decorations showed breaks and caesurae in the course of their history, which had an effect on the appearance of the decorations, the corresponding class designation or the basic classification in the old Austrian system of decorations. In this work, the state decorations are treated both from a cultural-historical perspective, by describing the history, purpose and meaning of the individual decorations according to the latest research results, and from an object-related approach in the form of a richly illustrated catalogue section with a detailed presentation and description of the individual decorations in their variety of models and production. The result is a monograph with almost 800 pages, around 2000 object photos and illustrations, many of which are being published for the first time.
