The Mitsubishi A6M (Jap. rei-shiki kanjo sentoki äTyp Null trägergestütztes Jagdflugzeugô) is a Japanese träger fighter aircraft made by Mitsubishi and used by the Imperial Japanese Naval Air Forces during World War II. The type designation comes from the last digit of the year of commissioning, 2600 Japanese calendar (1940). Unofficially, the A6M was also abbreviated as Rei-sen or Zero-sen in Japan. Zero is the best-known designation for this type of aircraft.
