We are talking about heroines and heroes again today. Quite impartially. The Corona pandemic shows us: we are dependent on people who are prepared to take on dangers and burdens for the good and protection of us all, even in everyday life. It is good to know that we can rely on our everyday heroes. Why is it different when soldiers are deployed abroad? Why do they remain invisible?
Why are they unknown to us? Why are their achievements not more appreciated? There are many answers to these questions. The editors of this work believe that many people know too little about what soldiers do on missions and what warlike conflicts in particular demand of them. Therefore, authentic accounts of soldiers and their wives are selected here for this book. These reports show that soldiers are not only military professionals who want to win battles. They are concerned with the values for which we stand and to which we are all committed. They are guided by them even in the most dangerous combat situations. And they are always concerned with protecting people. Every human life counts. Responsibility and humanity are at the forefront of their actions. They and their families accept the burdens.
