This book is an account of a Bundeswehr mission abroad. It gives an authentic account of what actually happened in Kunduz in 2008. The author, who had already been a professional soldier for 34 years at the time, gives his very personal impressions. The living conditions in Afghanistan, the preparation for the mission as well as the peculiarities of the mission are addressed just as openly as how to deal with death and injury, how to deal with the media and political representatives up to the demands on military superiors in such a sensitive environment as Kunduz was. The sense of the mission is critically questioned up to the crucial question for Colonel Rainer Buske: Was it worth it? Did the two soldiers who fell near Kunduz on 20 October 2008 die in vain?
