As long as there have been humans, there have been weapons. It was their physical inferiority that led to the production of weapons. First against animal threats and to catch prey, but then also against human competitors. With sedentarisation, large communities developed up to the first states. "Competition" between these inevitably led to technologies to gain advantage first on land, then at sea and finally in the air, and today in cyberspace.
Weapons support and relieve humans as fighters, although risks to their lives can never be excluded. Today, technology allows robotic systems for land, air and sea to be included in the military toolbox. They will replace soldiers, but not human casualties.
