This second of a total of three volumes of the work "Paratroopers - Uniforms and Equipment 1936-1945 "is devoted primarily to the equipment and individual armament of the German paratroopers of the Second World War.
The Springer helmet, which was part of the paratrooper's equipment, was the most prominent distinguishing feature of the German paratroopers along with the "bone sack". In this volume, all three patterns of the paratrooper helmet are presented comprehensively down to the smallest detail; in addition, quite a few examples of camouflage paints and other camouflage means, including all officially issued patterns of helmet cover.
The special equipment of the paratroopers required for jump operations - gas mask pouch, hand grenade pouch and cartridge carrying belt - can be found here as well as selected pieces of the standard equipment that was also used by the other ground troops of the Wehrmacht.
A separate chapter deals with the handguns used by the paratroopers, including the two versions of the special paratrooper rifle FG 42 that were introduced.
In addition, this volume deals with the parachutes and the drop containers, which were not part of the personal equipment, but made it possible for the paratroopers to enter the battle "from the air".
For Volume 2, numerous museums and private collectors all over the world have once again provided objects from their collections. Therefore, some rare real pieces and rarities can be shown here, some of which have never been presented to the public before. The manner in which the knight's helmets and equipment were worn, as well as the individual armament, is illustrated by contemporary photographs - a large number of which are published here for the first time.
