Description
Say to a woman she is beautiful - and the devil repeats it ten times.
This is an Italian proverb, to which Fritz Kredel, who has already provided inspiration for the design of pewter figures many times through his illustrations, drew a pair of figures with a devil and a Biedermeier lady in front of a mirror. Since the above saying is true for all times - who wants to doubt that? - the Leipzig collector friend R. Tschöpe generously transferred the statement of the saying to other fashionable manifestations of the ladies' world and shows them in appropriate costumes standing in front of the mirror.
From right to left we see: The Biedermeier lady, the contemporary "proportioned" by fast food, the country girl, the dancer, the buttoned-up older lady - or box? - in the style of the Victorian era.
If desired, the complimenting Mephisto with mirror can be placed with each of the ladies.
